Kancellar.hu and Eötvös Loránd University will jointly organize for the fourth time the 24-hour hacker contest. This year the contest will be international so two-member student teams are welcome to attend from all over the world. There is a single condition: teams must attend the contest in person at 2 p.m. December 3, 2010 in the Southern Building at the Lágymányos Campus of the Eötvös Loránd University. Once again the prize is HUF 1,000,000 or approximately EUR 3,700!
The objective of the contest is to show students IT security problems, challenges and techniques that they encounter every day as users and will hopefully encounter in the future as IT experts. In recent years teams had to solve three tasks but this year the organizers have changed the tradition and five tasks will be given. Participants will have to find solutions to challenging and exciting real-life problems, optimize and customize widely-known algorithms and codes using security programming as well as hacker skills.
More tasks mean more freedom. There is no set order. The tasks will be very different and each team can decide which one suits their personality, competence and creativity best. One of tasks was jointly developed by the International PET Portal and Blog (now available in English as well) and will focus on Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET).
The winner will be decided by the total score at the end of the contest. The rules remain unchanged, any additional tools may be used just like in real life. The available time, however, is limited: you will only have 24 hours to solve the problems!
